In a significant development, the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment has decided to take a different route for awarding the PM Young Achievers Scholarship Award Scheme for Vibrant India (PM-YASASVI) 2023. Rather than conducting the previously scheduled entrance test, scholarships will now be granted solely on the basis of merit. This decision, which has been made to accommodate the students’ time constraints, has resulted in the cancellation of the National Testing Agency (NTA) merit test.
A New Approach to Scholarships:
The Department of Social Justice & Empowerment’s decision to forgo the entrance test in favor of merit-based selection is a significant shift in the PM YASASVI scholarship process. This change has been initiated due to the limited time available for conducting the test.

Merit List Criteria:
The selection for the PM YASASVI scholarships in 2023 will be based on a merit list that considers the marks obtained by candidates in classes VIII and X, as per the scheme’s guidelines. This move aims to ease the burden on applicants and expedite the selection process.
The official notification released by the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment clarifies the reason behind this change: “Keeping in view the paucity of time for the test, the Department has reconsidered the matter. It has been decided that instead of the Entrance Test (which will entail extra burden on the applicants), the selection for this year will now be done on the basis of the merit to be prepared considering the marks obtained in the class VIII & X, as applicable, as per scheme guidelines.”
Eligible candidates with a minimum of 60% marks in either their eighth or tenth classes can apply through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) at www.scholarships.gov.in. Detailed instructions on the registration process are yet to be provided.
About the PM YASASVI Scholarship Scheme:
The Prime Minister’s Young Achievers Scholarship Award Scheme for Vibrant India (YASASVI) aims to support talented students from the Other Backward Class (OBC), Economically Backward Class (EBC), and Denotified, Nomadic & Semi-Nomadic Tribes (DNT/S-NT) backgrounds. Cancellation of the PM YASASVI Entrance Test 2023:
Previously, the NTA had scheduled the entrance test for September 29, 2023. However, a recent update on the official website confirms the cancellation of this test.
About the PM YASASVI Entrance Test 2023:
The PM YASASVI Entrance Test 2023 was designed to select candidates for scholarship awards. The selection process involved generating a merit list based on class 8 and 10 grades, with students achieving at least 60% or higher being eligible to apply.
The entrance test comprised 100 multiple-choice questions, each worth one mark, covering subjects such as Mathematics (30 marks), Science (25 marks), Social Science (25 marks), and General Awareness (20 marks).
The shift from an entrance test to a merit-based selection process for PM YASASVI scholarships in 2023 represents a significant change aimed at simplifying the application process for students. Eligible candidates can now look forward to a more streamlined approach to securing these valuable scholarships. If you have any doubts or comments, please feel free to submit them below.
